Gudi of Unity

Gudi Padwa is one of the most celebrated festivals in Maharashtra. It is celebrated as the start of the New Year in Maharashtrian culture. Nowadays it is easy to celebrate a festival with pomp & joy but to get involved with the festival & know the roots of the tradition is something that we are lacking.
Many young people do not understand the essence of our cultural festivals & we should make sure that they do not overlook their roots.
To celebrate the festival of Gudi Padwa with joy & also make people look back to their roots & tradition, our Surendra Pathare Foundation organised a memorable ‘Shobha Yatra’
The ‘Shobha Yatra’ was a joyous affair and there were people from the varkari movement, different religious sects, children in traditional fancy wear etc. dhol tasha pathak was astounding while some children were dressed as Bal Shivaji on horses.
A decorated bullock cart attracted the attention of many people too. It displayed the unity & harmony that we share while celebrating any festivals.
A special 51 Foot ‘Gudi of Unity’ was also erected; which was the centre of attraction of the celebration. Thus while celebrating the festival our foundation also attempted to make people aware of our cultures.
